Transition Navigators

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

There are very few services available to people who are trying to find meaningful work and community connections in the second half of life. Transition Navigators are trained peer mentors who meet this need by offering guidance, resources, validation and support on a one-on-one or small group basis They are not coaches, counsellors or advisers.

OBJECTIVES:

Provide information, ideas, resources, referrals and other forms of support to help participants target and pursue work and life goals

TARGET POPULATION: Ages 50 and over

BENEFITS/OUTCOMES:

In one or more sessions, participants gain clarity or purpose; information about tools, resources and options; connection to like-minded individuals and groups for ongoing support; referrals to professionals and other who can assist with various needs; and/or confidence to take the next step.

VOLUNTEERS:

Each Transition Navigator is a volunteer

PAID WORKERS:

One part-time worker –  coordinator/trainer; may be combined with other responsibilities

PROGRAM GUIDE:

Training Guide is under revision and is expected to be available in 2014

OTHER SUPPORT MATERIAL:

Resource Guide is being revised; local Resource Guides would need to be developed.

COSTS/FUNDING:

Modest per-session fees are charged to participants to cover administrative and program management costs

TRAINING:

A multi-session Training Guide is available; train-the-trainer can be arranged for a fee

No promotional materials are available
